The Homeless are all around us ......
.... we just need to look around!
Cambridge Cold Weather Emergency Shelter
The shelter is run by volunteers from the community, and a few hired monitors. It is housed behind the Salvation Army on Washington Street.
Each night, local churches work to provide dinner for those staying at the shelter. Grace UMC provides the Sunday night dinners along with Friendship United Methodist Church and The First Baptist Church.
The shelter is open every evening from 6 p.m. through 8 a.m. from December 1 to March 15.
The shelter receives no federal, state or local government funding, relying solely on donations and volunteers to continue to run.
Anyone in need is welcomed through the doors. The police department provides screenings, and the shelter is an alcohol and drug free zone. About 60 people total are served by the shelter throughout the season.
