BARACA NEWS

My thanks to the members of the Baraca Class for their support over the past year and a half.   As you may have heard, I have a new teaching job in southwest Georgia.  Les has generously agreed to take over duties as class president for the remainder of the year.   As you know, Les has many other duties at Grace church, so if he asks for your assistance with the class over the next few months, please step up and help out.

Come January, the class will need a new leader.   I know that there is someone out there that God is encouraging to take on the vital role of Baraca Class President.  The vital work of spreading God's Word and the joy of salvation through Jesus Christ must continue.   Please help continue the tradition of the laity-led ministry of the Baraca Class by prayerfully considering taking a leadership role.  I have asked Bill  to again lead the nominations committee as it seeks to fill the class offices.   Please help him out by  offering to help and suggesting quality people who can ensure that the class continues its ministry at Grace church and over the radio.

Although I have relocated to the Peach State, Grace Church remains my spiritual home.  I look forward to seeing all of you on my next visit during the Thanksgiving holiday.

                                                       Steven

Don't Forget . . .

RADIO SPONSORSHIP:  There are still Sundays in the coming months available for radio sponsorship.  This is a great way to remember or honor loved ones.  For more information, contact Michal in the church office.

We invite you to join us in person on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in the Baraca Room or by way of the radio (WCEM-AM 1240) as we continue our 102 year tradition of sharing the Good News of salvation through Christ Jesus.

Anyone having suggestions for new guest singers is encouraged to contact the class at baraca@comcast.net or by leaving a message with Michal in the church office.

*History of Baraca

Baraca is an adult Sunday School class that began with five members in 1909 as part of a nationwide movement to bring the Good News of Jesus to men in their 20s.  Over the decades, Baraca has come to welcome men and women of every age. The class is unique in that the pastor of Grace United Methodist Church is also the class teacher.  Baraca also has its own band.  Every week, the class features a guest singer as part of the program.

The class meets every Sunday from 9:45 to 10:45.  Since the 1940s, the Baraca Hour has been broadcast live on WCEM-AM 1240.  The class welcomes everyone to join them, either in person or over the radio.
